Power-savingmodes

Thereareseveralmodesthatyoucanuseatanytimetoconservepower.Thissectionintroduceseach

modeandgivestipsontheeffectiveuseofthebatterypower.

Introducingthepower-savingmodes

•Screenblank.Thecomputerdisplayrequiresconsiderablebatterypower.Toturnoffpowertothe

display,doasfollows:

1.Right-clickthePowerManagerBatteryGaugeinthetaskbar.

2.SelectPoweroffdisplay.

•Sleep(standbyinWindowsXP).Insleep(standby)mode,yourworkissavedtomemory,andthenthe

harddiskdriveorthesolidstatedriveandthecomputerdisplayareturnedoff.Whenyourcomputer

wakesup,yourworkisrestoredwithinseconds.Toputyourcomputerintosleep(standby)mode,press

Fn+F4.Toreturnfromsleep(standby)mode,pressFnkey.

•Hibernation.Byusingthismode,youcanturnoffyourcomputercompletelywithoutsavinglesorexiting

fromanyapplicationsthatarerunning.Whenyouenterhibernation,allopenapplications,folders,and

lesaresavedtotheharddiskdrive,andthenthecomputerturnsoff.Toenterhibernation,doasfollows:

•ForWindows7:

1.ClickStart.

2.ClickthetrianglemarkontherightsideoftheShundownicon,thenselectHibernate.

•ForWindowsXP:

1.ClickStart.

2.ClickShundown,thenselectHibernate.

Enablingthewakeupfunction

Ifyouputyourcomputerintohibernationmode,andthewakeupfunctionisdisabled(thisisthedefault

setting),thecomputerdoesnotconsumeanypower.Ifthewakeupfunctionisenabled,itconsumesasmall

amountofpower.Toenablethefunction,doasfollows:

•ForWindows7:

1.ClickStart➙ControlPanel➙SystemandSecurity.

2.ClickAdministrativeTools.

3.Double-clickTaskScheduler.Ifyouarepromptedforanadministratorpasswordorconrmation,

typethepasswordorprovideconrmation.

4.Fromtheleftpane,selectthetaskfolderforwhichyouwanttoenablethewakeupfunction.The

scheduledtasksaredisplayed.

5.Clickascheduledtask,andthenclicktheConditionstab.

6.UnderPower,selectthecheckboxforWakethecomputertorunthistask.

•ForWindowsXP:

1.ClickStart➙ControlPanel➙PerformanceandMaintenance.

2.ClickScheduledT asks.Thescheduledtasksaredisplayed.

3.Right-clickonascheduledtask.

4.ClickProperties.

5.ClicktheSettingstab.

6.UnderPowerManagement,selectthecheckboxforWakethecomputertorunthistask.
