ofthesescenarios,allsystemsareconsideredtoberegisteredinHardwarePasswordManager.

Thissectiondescribeshardwarescenarios.

Scenario1-Hardwarecongurationchanges

Whenyoumakeahardwarechange,aBIOSerroristriggeredandyouarepromptedtoenteryour

administratorpassword(PAP/SVP)inordertoentertheBIOSsetup.AfteryouentertheBIOSsetup,accept

thechangestocleartheBIOSerror.

Youcanalsoskiptheadministratorpasswordpromptandrestartthesystem.Inthiscase,theBIOSerror

isnotclearedandyouwillbepromptedagainfortheadministratorpasswordonallsubsequentrestarts

untilenteringtheBIOSsetupandacceptingthehardwarechanges.

Whenhardwarechangesaremadetoasystem,theBIOSerroroccurs,andtheUserLoginwindowis

displayed.Youcanperformoneoftheseactions:

•EnterthehardwareaccountcredentialsattheUserLoginwindowusinganaccountwithHardware

PasswordManagerAdministratorprivileges.IftheHardwareAccountcredentialswithHardwarePassword

ManagerUserprivilegesareentered,theBIOSwillpromptfortheadministratorpasswordseparately.

•AttheUserLoginwindow,pressEsctoopentheLoginMenuwindowandselectInternetAccountLogin

toopenthewindow.EntertheadministratorcorporatecredentialstoreleasethePAP/SVP.

•AttheUserLoginwindow,pressEsctogototheLoginMenuwindowandselectManuallyEnter

PasswordstogotothemanualloginandenterthePAP/SVP .YoucanobtainthePAP/SVPfromthe

HardwarePasswordManagerAdminConsole.

Notes:

1.IfthePAPisnotknownonadesktopsystem,youcanremovetheCMOSbatterytoclearboththe

POPandPAP .

2.HardwarechangesonLenovoThinkPadsdonotgenerateBIOSerrorstoallowforhotorwarm-swapping,

sothePAP/SVPisnotrequired.

Scenario2-CMOSerror

ToprotectBIOSsettingsinCMOSmemory,achecksumiscomputedandsavedforerrordetection.Each

timethesystemstarts,thisnumberisrecomputedandcheckedagainstthestoredvalue.Iftheydonot

match,anerrornoticationisgeneratedtoinformtheuserthatCMOScontentsmayhavebeencorrupted

andthereforesomesettingsmaybewrong.ThemostcommoncauseofchecksumerrorsinCMOSisa

batterythatislosingpower,oravirusorsystemboardproblem.

CMOSerrorsrequireyoutoenterBIOSsetupandselectLoadDefaultSettingsbeforethesystemcanstart

theoperatingsystem.InordertoenterBIOSsetup,theSVPmustbeprovided.

WhenaCMOSerroroccurs,theUserLoginwindowisdisplayedwhenthisBIOSerroroccurs.Doone
