Ifthesystemisstillbootable,itisrecommendedtode-registerthesystemwithHardwarePassword
Manager.Thiswillclearallthehardwarepasswordsfromthesystem.Installthereplacementharddiskand
theusualHardwarePasswordManagerdeploymentprocesscanbefollowedtoprepareforregisteringthe
systemwithHardwarePasswordManageragain.
Ifthesystemwillnotstartfromtheharddiskandhasawiredconnectiontothecorporatenetwork,press
EscattheHardwarePasswordManagerpre-bootlogin.Choosetoperformanintranetlogin.Youshould
providecredentialsthatareassociatedwiththeadministratororservicetechrole.Choosetode-registerthe
systemfromthemenu.Thiswillclearthehardwarepasswordsfromthesystem.
Ifthesystemwillnotstartfromtheharddiskandisnotconnectedtothecorporatenetwork,pressF1during
POSTtoentertheBIOSSetupUtility.PressEscwhenpromptedfortheHardwarePasswordManagerLogin.
SelectManuallyenterpasswords.EntertheSVPthatcanberetrievedfromtheconsole.PressF1again
andentertheMasterPasswordfortheharddisk.SelectSecurityandthenselectPassword.Disablethe
HardwarePasswordManagersetting.Thiswillclearallhardwarepasswords.NowenabletheHardware
PasswordManagersettingandpressF10tosaveandexittheBIOSSetupUtility.Nowthatthesystemhas
beende-registered,anewharddiskcanbeinstalledandtheusualHardwarePasswordManagerdeployment
processcanbefollowedtoprepareforregisteringthesystemwithHardwarePasswordManageragain.
IfthereplacementharddiskwaspreviouslymanagedbyHardwarePassword,soitisknowntotheHardware
PasswordManagerserverandhasaHDPset,theHDPmustbeclearedmanuallyusingtheBIOSSetup
Utility.PressF1duringPOSTtoentertheBIOSSetupUtility.PressEscwhenpromptedfortheHardware
PasswordManagerLogin.SelectManuallyenterpasswords.EntertheSVPthatcanberetrievedfromthe
console.PressF1againandentertheMasterPasswordfortheharddisk.SelectSecurityandthenselect
Password.DeleteboththeUserHDPandtheMasterHDP .PressF1tosaveandexit.
InordertocleartheHDP,youshouldeitherhavethecomputernameofthedevicethattheharddiskwas
enrolledinortheHDDIDandthesystemIDinordertoobtainthecorrectHDPandSVPfromtheconsole.
TheHDDIDandmachineIDcanberetrievedusingaLenovosuppliedHardwarePasswordManager
DOSutility.AfteryouobtaintheHDDIDandmachineID,youcanobtaintheHDPandSVPusingthe
ThinkManagementConsole.NowyoucancleartheHDPusingtheBIOSsetup.
Note:TheSVPisnotrequiredtoclearaHDPforThinkPadsystems.
Scenario9-Changetheharddisklocationwithinasystem
Thisscenariooccurswhenthephysicalpositionofharddisk1and2areswappedonthebus.Thereis
noimpacttoHardwarePasswordManagerbecauseharddiskpositionisnotmaintainedwithintheHDD
instanceontheserver.
Scenario10-Removeaharddiskdrive
Whenremovingaharddisk,therecommendedsolutionistoderegisterthesystempriortoremovingthe
harddisk,andthenre-registerthesystemafteranotherharddiskhasbeeninstalled.Thisoperationwill
makesuretheharddiskthatisremoveddoesnothaveanHDPset.
Note:RemovingtheharddiskwithoutrstderegisteringwillleaveanorphanedHDDinstanceontheserver.
YoucanchoosetoremainsuchrecordsincasetheHDPiseverneededinthefuture,orcleanthemup
usingtheThinkManagementConsole.
