installationinwhichacoreserverisbeinginstalledforthersttime.

Backingupthecoreserver

Therearemultipleoptionsforbackingupthecoreserver.Itisimportantthatthecoreserverisbacked

up,souseatrustedbackupmethod.

Manycompanieshaveabackuppolicytobackupserverstoaspecicexternalmediatypesuchastape

drive,DVD,orevenexternaldrives.Ifyourcompanyhasaback-uppolicy,thispolicyshouldbeimplemented

beforeupgradingthecoreserver.

BackingupthecoreserverwithImageW.exeandPhylock

ThecoreserverdrivesorpartitionscanbebackedupusingLANDesk’simagingtool,ImageW.exe.The

systemdrive,andthedriveonwhichthecoreserverisinstalled,ifdifferent,shouldbebackedup.For

Backingupthedatabase

Itismostimportanttobackupthedatabase.Thisdocumentdoesnotincludethestepsforbackingupthe

databaseonthedatabaseserver.Workwiththedatabaseadministratortocreateabackupofyourdatabase.

Important:Backingupthedatabaseisabsolutelycritical.Therearemanyreasonsadatabasemightfailto

beupgraded.Ifthecoreserverissuccessfullyupgraded,butthedatabaseisnot,thenwithoutabackup

database,youmighthavetostartwithanewdatabaseandloseyourdata.Ifyouhaveabackupofthe

databaseanditcanberestored,theupgradeproblemcanberesolved,andthedatabasecanthenbe

upgradedtomaintainyourdata.

Backingupcriticalcoreserverles

Eventhoughwehaveabackupoftheentirecoreserveranddatabase,itisstillagoodideatohavethecritical

lesbackedupandaccessible.Iftheonlybackupisonatapedrive,thecriticallesarenotnecessarily

accessiblewithoutrestoringthetape.Itisbettertohavetheselesbackeduptoashareforaccessibility.

LANDeskhasacreatedatooltobackupcriticallestoashare.ThistooliscalledCoreDataMigration.exe.

LaterversionsofCoreDataMigration.exemightbackuplesthatwerenotbackedupinearlierversions.One

oftheThinkManagementConsole9.0installationlesisanupdatedCoreDataMigration.exeanditmightbe

bettertousethe9.0versioninsteadoftheversionthatiscurrentlyonthecoreserverifearlier.Thenew

versionofCoreDataMigration.execanbefoundintheThinkManagementConsole9.0installationmediain

the\LANDesk\SetupFilesfolderdirectory.IfyouhaveaThinkManagementConsole9.0coreserverinstalled,

thislecanbefoundintheC:\ProgramFiles\LANDesk\ManagementSuite\folderdirectory.

Itisrecommendedthatthecriticallesbebackeduptoasecureshareonaseparateserver.Thefollowing
